The difference between maximum event size and available tickets, and how to set a limit on tickets per booking

There are three ways to restrict how many tickets your customers can purchase for an event. Maximum event size (for an overall capacity limit), Number of tickets available (to restrict the available number of tickets per ticket type) and Maximum tickets per booking (how many tickets a customer can purchase in a single booking, i.e. one ticket per booking).

This article covers:

Maximum event size

This setting refers to the maximum capacity of your event. You can find this setting under the Tickets & Costs tab within your entry:

For example, if you have an overall capacity limit of 10 spaces at your event, you can add "10" here, meaning your customers can purchase a total of 10 tickets of any ticket type, as long as it's within this limit.

Number of tickets available

This setting refers to how many tickets you wish to make available for a particular ticket type.

This is useful if you have multiple ticket options and would like to restrict each one by a specific availability. For example, say you have an overall capacity of 30 but only have 10 VIP tickets available and 20 standard tickets available; you can restrict each one by this limit.

You can find this setting under the Tickets & Costs tab within your entry. From here, add the number limit next to Number of tickets available:

If you are using this setting for the multiple ticket option, select the pencil and paper πŸ“ icon next to each ticket to open this setting:

πŸ’‘ To note:

  • Regardless of how many available tickets you set, the Maximum event size will override that number if it's set to a lower amount.

    • For example, if you set the maximum event size to 10 and the number of tickets available to 15, the system will cap bookings for the event at 10.

  • If you set the Number of tickets available as a lower number than the maximum event size, bookers can only purchase that set amount of tickets.

    • For example, if you set the number of tickets to 10 but the maximum event size to 15, customers can only book 10 tickets.

  • The event will never oversell more than specified in the Maximum event size box.

Maximum tickets per booking

This setting restricts the number of tickets a customer can purchase in one booking. For example, when set to 1, customers are restricted to purchasing only 1 ticket per date/time within a single booking in this entry.

πŸ’‘ The default is currently set to 10, but this can be amended as per your requirements.

You can find this setting in the Tickets & Costs tab within your entry under Restrictions:

πŸ’‘ This is especially useful if you have a popular event and would like to limit the number of tickets your customers can purchase at one time or create a 'list-only' entry.
