✨ Please note: Online payments are available on the Lite plan or above. Klarna is only available if you are using Stripe as your payment provider.
Klarna is a global payment method that offers different payment options to your customers.
💡 Before you start, please check out our Understanding Klarna payments article, advising on the different options and processing fees.
This article covers:
Adding Klarna to your Stripe Integration
Follow the below steps to add and activate Klarna:
Log into your Stripe Dashboard.
Confirm that your logo, brand information, and contact emails are up to date. When you add Klarna as a payment method, they will be shared with Klarna.
Select the Settings toggle ⚙️, Payments, then Payment methods:
On the list of payment methods, find Klarna and select Turn on.
💡 To use Klarna, please ensure you select 'Bookwhen configurations - Default' under Payments > Payment methods.
Checkout process
When customers choose Klarna at checkout, Klarna securely redirects them to its site, where they can select a preferred payment option, including upfront payment, instalments (pay in 3), or pay in 30 days.
For example:
💡 Please note: The availability of these options depends on the customer's billing address and transaction amount.
Once the payment is accepted, you will receive the full order amount in your Stripe account (minus fees). Klarna will collect the purchase amount directly from your customer, including any future instalments, if applicable.
Presenting Klarna as an available payment option to your customers
Klarna has marketing compliance guides that you must comply with if you are adding Klarna as a payment method.
⚠️ Only pre-approved downloaded assets or Klarna On-Site Messaging will be deemed approved by Klarna. These can be found on Klarna's Marketing Guides. Please follow the rules within your selected country.
Adding Klarna as an option on your Bookwhen public booking page
If you add Klarna as an option, you must use their pre-approved messaging.
For example, within the UK, you may use the following "Invitation to Credit" with No Disclosure or risk warning as it is not a financial prompt:
“Klarna available”
“Klarna available at checkout”
If you want to use one of the pre-approved Klarna messaging options, such as "Pay in 3 with Klarna," you must ensure that you add the relevant BNPL (Buy Now Pay Later) Disclosures on your public booking page, as this is a financial prompt within the "Invitation to Credit."
For example, within the UK, you would need to have the following:
"Pay in 3 with Klarna"
Klarna's Pay in 3 is an unregulated credit agreement. Borrowing more than you can afford or paying late may negatively impact your financial status and ability to obtain credit. 18+, UK residents only. Subject to status. Late fees may apply. Ts&Cs apply.
💡 Please follow the Klarna guidelines for your selected country.
🇬🇧 UK Specific Guidance
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has regulations in place for advertising Klarna's Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) methods in the UK. To ensure compliance and avoid potential issues, it's essential to use messaging pre-approved by Klarna.
For your convenience, you can find all of Klarna's UK-approved messaging within their UK Financial Promotion Rules.
