How to set up automatic discounts for customers who bulk buy multiple tickets in one booking

What is a bulk booking discount?

Discounts for bulk bookings apply automatically when customers meet the criteria you set. For example, if you've set that they will receive a discount if they purchase 4 tickets or more in one booking and add the 4 tickets to their basket, the discount is applied at checkout without inputting a code.

💡 When multiple discounts apply (e.g., a discount code and a bulk booking discount), the system will automatically apply the highest available discount. If the discounts apply to different tickets, both will be redeemed. For example, if the code is for "Ticket A" and the bulk discount applies to "Ticket B," the bulk discount will apply to "Ticket B," and the code can still be used for "Ticket A."


Setting up a discount set

To set up a discount set, select Packages & Discounts from the left-hand menu, then Discounts:

A Discount set is a grouping of discounts where you can group discounts in the same set. For example, your bulk booking discount rules are in one set, and your discount codes in another. Or they could be grouped around a theme, like 'Summer Offers'.

To set up a discount set, select Add a new discount set:

Name the set (this name is just for your internal reference and isn't visible to customers):

  • Then decide on the Discount type and whether this set and all discounts within it apply to Tickets or Passes:

  • Under Restrict use on events occurring between, you can decide whether this discount set and all discounts within it are limited to a specific timeframe only. The discounts will not be valid or applicable at checkout outside this timeframe.

    • If you leave this blank, no date restrictions are applied.

  • Ticket discount applies to: Allows you to decide whether the discounts you create are only valid for specific entries or tickets.

    • If the offer is valid for everything on your booking pages, you can leave this blank.

💡 To note:

  • Your selections dictate where customers can apply the discount. If you add new entries or ticket types, you will need to return to this discount set to include these in the offer.

  • Free tickets are excluded from the bulk-booking offer.


Setting up bulk booking discounts

You can now create your discount rules for your bulk booking discounts. To add a new rule, select Add discount rule:

💡 To note:

  • Discount rules are not connected to discount codes. They work independently from each other. Your customers will never need to enter a discount code to trigger a bulk booking discount rule, as these are applied automatically.

  • Deleting a discount rule 'freezes' any tickets purchased with the rule, meaning tickets cannot be transferred.


Setting up a 2-for-1 discount:

Rule type

Only a Bulk purchase discount option is available.

Minimum tickets selected

This is the minimum number of tickets chosen for the offer to apply. The above example has been set to "2" to apply the discount if two or more valid tickets are selected.

Type of discount

You can decide if the discounted value is fixed or calculated as a percentage of the total value of tickets in the deal.

💡 It's essential to consider this setting carefully. In this 2-for-1 example, the single ticket cost is £5, so the total price for two tickets would be £10. The discount would be 50% off; however, the customer would still receive the offer if they select 3, 4, 5 or more tickets. Meaning they will receive 50% off their basket total.

Therefore, using the fixed discount of £5 is appropriate for this offer. The total discount will never go above £5. So even if a customer selects 10 tickets, the system would apply only the 2-for-1 offer once per booking.

Set if this rule will expire at any point

The Discount set settings will override this if you have a date range set there too.

Days in advance limit

The time frame between events determines whether a discount is redeemable. E.g. if you'd only like to give a discount for tickets for five events within six weeks, then enter 42 days.

Only count separate events?

If checked, discounts will only apply if the tickets purchased are for different events. If unchecked, the discount would be valid if a customer booked for themselves and a friend for the same class on the same day.

When finished setting up, select Add rule at the bottom and be sure to save the changes on the discount set:

You can test your discount rule by making a test booking on your public booking page as if you were a customer. You can either abandon the booking before the payment or bypass the payment altogether (if logged in and booked as an admin).


2-for-1 option with a code

There is a workaround if you want to set up a 2-for-1 code for only those with the code.

If your single ticket costs £10, you may wish to create an additional group ticket named Ticket for 2 people, which costs twice as much, at £20.

This discount code could be, for example, named '2FOR1DEAL' and can be set to either reduce the basket total by percentage (50%) or monetary value (in this case, £10) for the specific ticket titled Ticket for 2 People by adding a usage restriction.

This would reduce the price of this particular ticket from £20 to £10 at the checkout, creating your 2-for-1 offer.

✨ Some of our customers like to create a group ticket with the discount already included in the pricing.

💡 To note:

  • You may need to set up multiple discount codes if your ticket pricing varies across your entries.

  • Customers without the code will have to pay the regular group ticket price and won't be able to access the offer without the code.

  • When advertising the offer, you may want to specify the ticket name to which it applies.

  • The confirmation email does not contain any discount information. To access the discount information, they can select View booking within the email to review their booking within their account.



Advertising your bulk booking offer

If you offer a bulk booking discount, you won't need a code to trigger it at checkout; it is an automated rule that the customer will not know about the discount offer unless you specifically advertise it.

You can do this through your usual marketing channels (e-mail, social media, etc.), but you might also want to add a discount note to your public page, event, or ticket information.

We recommend adding some explanatory text under Tickets & Costs for the events that your offer covers.

Making a bulk booking

When a customer selects the right amount of tickets that are valid for a bulk booking offer, the discount automatically applies as soon as they open their basket:

💡 To note: The customer cannot remove or combine the discount with another discount. The best discount available will always take priority unless both discount sets reference different events or tickets.
